Newport is at the centre of the island and is the capital, it has lots of shops and makes a perfect day out shopping, and close by to the town is St Thomas’s square where a weekly farmers market is held offering local produced products such as jam and fresh vegetables.

Newport is well known for its little shops selling handmade jewellery and crafts and people come to visit this town to buy souvenirs.

The river medina runs all the way to Cowes and is a pleasant walk along the bank.
